Join for a Mushroom Block Giveaway at Resistencia's Books Dia de los Muertos Fiesta. Shaman Jesus from Herbal Action Project will be leading a workshop where the community builds a Dia de Los Muertos community ofrenda - Garden Altar with mycelium mushroom blocks as we celebrate in remembrance of our ancestors in a heart opening seed ceremony. This community altar is to honor our ancestors, live music, kids activities, food & drinks, plant medicine, giveaways & prizes!

We will be there to show you how to recycle mushroom grow blocks to build healthy soil, increase water retention, feed the soil web, your plants and eventually you! We have a video series and we can show you low-cost and low-tech ways to recycle SMS and other organic matter back into the soil and also grow delicious Vitamin D filled culinary mushrooms! These basic techniques require no special equipment or electricity, and can all be done outdoors using organic materials found on most farms and gardens. Let’s build healthy soil together!

Examples of containers YOU CAN GROW MUSHROOMS IN

Old planter pot, 5-gallon bucket, laundry basket, milk crate, or crate for vegetables, wire mesh container like a bird house, strawberry pot. Don't buy anything new. Let's recycle. Any container with holes in it will work including a cardboard box. If your container doesn’t have holes in the side, use a power drive with a 1“ step drill bit and drill holes in a diamond pattern 4” apart on the sides of the bucket. DO NOT drill holes on the bottom. If there are already holes on the bottom, line it with cardboard.
