Andre Gutierrez owns Meyers Mushrooms in El Paso, TX. Myers Mushrooms EPTX is an urban farm in a residential home that can incubate and grow up to 200 lbs of mushrooms per week all in a 2 car garage. Oyster mushrooms and lion’s mane mushrooms are harvested once a week for restaurants and hotels in the area. Online orders of freshly harvested mushrooms can be made by the public as well and deliveries are made directly to their door.
This mid scale mushroom production was designed to be operated by one person but as production doubled in size an assistant helps with inoculating, harvesting and packaging. After 3 years of improving production and growing the company the next chapter of mushroom farming awaits!
Andrew (Andy) Montag has been growing gourmet mushrooms seasonally since 2018. Since then, he has experimented with culture storage and propagation, growing mediums, and environmental monitoring and control. Andrew is a home-grower interested in sustainable food sources and production methods. He was raised in rural Iowa, worked in agriculture, and has an engineering degree from Iowa State University, and now works on radio test and measurement products.
