MAY 20, 2021 @ 7PM CST
Join the Central Texas Mycological Society as we discuss the upcoming MycoCulture project! Ryan Manthei will lead the discussion and share his insights on expanding cultures in his home lab. Input is welcome, this project is intended to be community based. Help us build up the fungal community in Central Texas!
This talk will focus on the basics of mycology. We will begin with identifying key features of a mushroom, followed by an intro to microscopy uses and when different types (Compound/Dissecting) are appropriate. Finally, we will then transition into storing cultures on agar, and the basics of how to cultivate with different mushroom spawn.
About Ryan
Ryan Manthei is passionate about expanding mushroom cultivation techniques including: fruiting polypores out of bags, gourmet monotubs, new agar recipes, and waste farming. First and foremost, he aims to be a citizen scientist that explores the wonderful secrets of nature and encourage others within the community to explore it as well.
Secondly, he aims to spread any gained mycological knowledge through tribes of like-minded individuals, and provide as much equipment and supplies as I can to those interested in being life long learners.
