7 Walks, 5 Cities in Texas, 1 Weekend
The stars are out in Texas! Not the stars deep in the heart of Texas that first come to mind. These stars are on the forest floor and they are our new official state mushroom. The Texas Star Mushroom, Chorioactis geaster is unique to the heart of Texas and is only found in one other geographic location, which is Japan. Scientists are perplexed as to why it is so geographically distributed. You may recognize the mushroom because it is part of our logo.
Join the Central Texas, Gulf States, and North Texas Mycological Society, for various walks in different cities along the corridor where this mushroom is found. Dallas/Fort Worth, Austin at Zilker Botanical Garden and Walnut Creek, San Marcos, and San Antonio/New Braunfels. We hope to find and observe the state mushroom and learn the ecology of this fascinating fruiting body. If we get rain before the event, we will also be observing and identifying this rare mushroom and many others.
Tickets are free for members and $5 for non-members. Become a member to get access to walks, online lectures, discounts on workshops and more.
If you would like to host your own Texas Star Mushroom Walk, send us the dates and times, meeting location and we will add it to our calendar!
