In this hands-on workshop, you will learn:
Which mushrooms are considered to be "functional" or "medicinal" to humans
What are the reported health benefits (or downsides) to consuming functional mushrooms
Which compounds that exist in mushrooms are reportedly beneficial to our health
Where to find the latest published research
What is a mushroom "extract" or "tincture"
Single, Double and Triple Extraction methods for obtaining your desired compounds
A repeatable process and formula that you can use to create future extracts
Each participant leaves with an in-process half pint jar containing 80% alcohol of lion’s mane. After a week, you can extract that into a tincture and use it as-is or perform the double extraction step. We will demonstrate three ways to extract and will provide digital links to the step-by-step process.
About the Instructor
Art Thompson is an amateur mycologist and seasoned mycophagist seeking out new and interesting fungal specimens. He began his fascination with fungi in high school, growing fungi in his bedroom closet on agar plates from collected spores and even running a mail order spore print business. Decades later, he's still tinkering in his home/lab capturing and isolating sterile cultures, growing and foraging for wild mushrooms and experimenting with techniques for extracting the beneficial compounds found in all fungi.
