Join us for a in person workshop to learn how to recycle mushroom grow blocks to build healthy soil, increase water retention, feed the soil web, your plants and eventually you! This workshop will cover the basic mycology and then we will show you low-cost and low-tech ways to recycle SMS and other organic matter back into the soil and also grow delicious Vitamin D filled culinary mushrooms! These basic techniques require no special equipment or electricity, and can all be done outdoors using organic materials found on most farms and gardens. Let’s build healthy soil together!
What to Bring:
Folding Chair or Blanket, Cordless power drill and step drill bit (if you have one), Bring your own container such as a 5 gallon containers: planter pot, bucket, laundry basket, milk crate, or crate for vegetables, wire mesh container like a bird house, strawberry pot. Don't buy anything new. Let's recycle. Any container with holes in it will work including a cardboard box. If your container doesn’t have holes in the side, use a power drive with a 1 “ bit and drill holes in a diamond pattern 4” apart on the sides of the bucket. DO NOT drill holes on the bottom. If there are already holes on the bottom, line it with cardboard.

PEAS (Partners for Education, Agriculture and Sustainability) is a 501c3 nonprofit organization based in Austin, TX. Founded with the mission to cultivate joyful connections with the natural world through outdoor learning and edible education. PEAS delivers unique, outdoor learning and edible education programs to participating school campuses, operates and maintains a community farm, runs camps, and leads professional development to help teachers bridge key science, nutrition, math and health concepts from the garden to the classroom. Delivering programming year-round, PEAS provides trained outdoor specialists who partner directly with classroom teachers at each school’s campus to lead outdoor and kitchen lessons, increasing students’ time spent learning in an outdoor, hands-on environment. PEAS currently works with 19 schools in the Austin area, engaging more than 3000 students in outdoor learning.
