Join us for an exciting two-part workshop led by renowned mycologist Danielle Stevenson , where we’ll explore the fascinating world of native mycorrhizal fungi and their vital role in supporting healthy soils and trees.

Workshop Details:

• Part 1: Learn the fundamentals of mycorrhizal fungi, their symbiotic relationships with plants, and their ecological benefits. We’ll also prepare the materials and set up the foundation for cultivating native and bioregional mycorrhizal to be used as an inoculum to use to grow native plants.

• Part 2: (Date TBD) Return to see the progress of our cultivation, refine your techniques, and learn practical applications for using mycorrhizal fungi to improve soil health and tree vitality. We will harvest the inoculum and learn about spore extractions and identification.

This hands-on workshop is part of the Healthy Soils, Healthy Trees program, funded by the City of Austin Urban Forestry, and aims to empower participants with the knowledge and skills to create thriving ecosystems in urban and natural settings.

What to bring: Bug spray (there are mosquitos!), water, sunscreen, gloves. We highly recommend wearing long pants. No sandals or open-toed shoes!

ABOUT THE INSTRUCTOR

Danielle Stevenson is a multidisciplinary scientist with 15 years of experience in research, design, implementation and management of innovative remediation projects. She also operate D.I.Y. Fungi offering mycological education, consultation, mushroom cultures, and mycoremediation and waste management research in North America and beyond.
