Help us Keep Mycelium out of the Waste!
Want 50+ mushroom blocks for a personal or community project?
Each week, 5,000 spent mushroom blocks are ready to be rescued and transformed into healthy soil! Pick up blocks from the mushroom farm to reduce waste, greenhouse emissions and boost soil biodiversity. Keep half for your projects and drop off the rest at a community location. Trucks can haul 150 blocks, cars around 75—just bring a tarp for the mess. Together, we can make sustainability impactful!
REQUIREMENTS
PICK A DATE: Pick a date to rescue blocks from the mushroom farm in North Austin (183 & Mopac). Block rescue must be pre-scheduled at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Thursday, or Sunday. You can't show up anytime because blocks are kept indoors and a staff member must be there to open the gate to unload them in your vehicle. If your plans change, please cancel. There are limited supply and shifts and when you are a NO SHOW, blocks go in the waste. 🙁
CONFIRM YOUR APPOINTMENT: Once you pick a date, we will text and email you a day before your shift with the instructions, safety protocols, directions to the farm and address for drop off at a community pickup closest to you.
PICK-UP AT FARM: Show up at 10 am sharp and wait in line. There are 5 volunteers scheduled on pick-up days and things move fast. Sometimes you have to wait up to 30 minutes for your turn. Supply is limited because mushroom farming is unpredictable. We do our best to give everyone blocks that show up on time. It is not possible to make special requests on variety of mushrooms. You must take what is available. Don’t be late!
DELIVERY TO COMMUNITY SITE: Block delivery means you pick-up a 50+ blocks in your own vehicle to deliver at least 25 to community pickup closest to you.
NO RESALE: This is a community based, volunteer-run project. You agree that the blocks WILL NOT be used for resale.
