Join us to look our new state mushroom Texas Star Mushroom also known as the Devil’s Cigar. Chorioactis geaster. It is unique to our state and is only found in a few other geographic locations - Japan and Taiwan. Scientists are perplexed as to why it is so geographically distributed and separated genetically by 18 million years. The mushroom hisses when at opens and spreads its spore. Watch Video.

Meet Roxy Eguia, a passionate explorer of the natural world, seamlessly blending her expertise in water science with a deep-rooted love for mycology and native Texas plants. As she navigates the fascinating realm of fungi. Roxy brings a unique flavor, transforming her knowledge into forest adventures. Her journey is a celebration of sustainability, culinary artistry, and the vibrant tapestry of Texas's edible treasures.

ABOUT THE WALK GUIDEs

Angelica is a local mushroom farmer, and native, edible plant enthusiast. In 2013 she studied to become a chef at Le Cordon Bleu in Los Angeles.

Angelica is a recent graduate of the Alamo Area Texas Master Naturalist Program and volunteers for the Central Texas Mycological Society.
