GUEST SPEAKER: Elizabeth McGreevy
DATE: Thursday, May 19, 2022
TIME: 7 PM CST
WHERE: ONLINE & FREE
For decades, we've been told Mountain Cedars (aka Ashe Junipers) degrade our soils and groundwaters. However, newer research and understandings are revealing the opposite is true. Instead of causing harm, McGreevy will explain how Mountain Cedars can repair damage and, over the long term, help to regenerate and maintain healthy soils and spring flows. We will also discuss ongoing research with the COA Balcones Canyonland Preserve and The Gehring Lab that is to explore the role of mycorrhizal fungi in habitat management and restoration. The Gehring Lab is internationally recognized for its research on managing and restoring underground fungal communities to boost habitat regeneration and respond to threats from invasive species and climate change.
