Did you know there are wild orchids in Central Texas? Better yet, did you know that some orchids are Mycoheterotrophs, meaning it relies on fungi for their nutrients rather than photosynthesis. Join Angel and Sam the Fungi from Central Texas Mycological Society for a walk to see the rare, Hexalectris nitida. We hope to see it blooming as it was close this last weekend. Learn more about myco-heterotrophs on our blog post by Grace Stark a mycology PhD student at Berkeley.
With the recent rain, we can also expect to see more mushrooms fruiting. Bring a smart phone or camera, basket or mesh bag, rubber boots or water shoes for high-water crossings.
