The talk will focus on ecological interactions between fungi (primarily of the gulf coast) and other organisms within the environment including plants, insects, and humans.
About the Presenter:
Chris has a BS in Biology from St. Edward’s University in Austin and a MS in Forestry from Texas A&M University in College Station. His graduate work focused on forest entomology and landscape ecology. He studied bark beetle population dynamics in the southwestern US and modeled tree risk across southwestern landscapes.
After graduate school, Chris Garza worked as an applied ecologist at the Houston Arboretum & Nature Center for 3.5 years. During his time there, he played a role in the master plan implementation and forest, prairie, and savanna restoration efforts. He now works as an environmental scientist for Hollaway Environmental where he conducts wetland delineations and threatened & endangered species surveys among other things.
Chris has had various other positions including, as a US Forest Service wilderness ranger in the Boundary Waters of Minnesota and as a honey bee technician collecting feral honeybees in south Texas and southwestern Pennsylvania. Chris is also an ISA Certified Arborist.
